Saltwater flyfishing in coastal Trang

We found on a peaceful and clean bay (this is rare) a very welcoming village of fishermen flanked by mudflats, mangrove, and a large beach. Two resorts are at your disposition along with three restaurants.
Local people are well organised and they fish or transport people or even car with their long tail boats (yes sir, but I don't know how they do it) to nearby islands. Long tail boats are large boats up to 30ft with a platform at the bow (very nice for casting) and most of them are roofed from the middle to the stern (very nice for rest).

Fishermen around there are well informed about preservation of the stocks and some guys told me proudly that they have stopped dynamite fishing!
Unlike most Thai, natives weren't much surprised by fishing lures made of goat, sheep, deer hair and chicken feathers (flies), they said that they are actually bringing into play an ancestral jigging technique using white duck feathers tied on hook with a lead down the line to fish for trevally species.

During the "dry" period, after the monsoon, November to early May, the sea is calmer and you can see the trevallies blitzing on mullets and other baitfish.

Trang fishery:
Trevallies (lot of queenfish, giant trevally, golden trevally, pompano )
Snappers (mangrove jack, golden snapper, john snapper)
Cods (coral trout, estuary cod)
Cobias
Barracudas
Barramundis
King mackerel
Sailfish (locals don't eat it they don't like it, something with the texture of the meat???)

Freshwater fly fishing and light tackle in Ciao Lan (Surat thani province)

Situated in the region between Koh Samui, Hat Khao Lak and Phuket the Ciao Lan reservoir is a remote place quite difficult to access.
But once you in there you will amazed (yep! amazing Thailand) that reservoir is part of two national parks and a no-hunting zone in one of the oldest jungle on earth.

Fishing, trekking, cave visiting, spotlight searching for animals (we saw a Serow ! (kind of small buffalo with a musk gland under the eyes) and spear fishing (it's a common practice of rafts teams and preys are eaten).
This destination is a nice getaway for the non angler as well.

Included:
Bungalow on raft on single occupancy
All meals
Fishing
Transport from Phuket or Surat thani to Ciao Lan and back
Trip by boat to the raft

Not included:
Alcoholic drinks and soft drinks

Avalaible:

A day of trek
Cave visiting
Spotlight searching for animals

If you have questions contact us and ensure that you add a "fishing" word in the title of your e-mail (too many spam, the net is a real jungle).

Our philosophy is to explore different locations, work with the locals, propose reasonable prices and have great fun.

We are working to set up trips of two or three days for expatriates and business travellers, easy to reach by plane, comfortable and with a minimum of guarranty to catch fish.

There are a lot of destinations that could be very productive but those are time consuming to reach and not so comfortable to stay at.

Thus if you are ready to any challenge (trekking/camping/flyfishing) and you dispose of time (we know time is luxury) and want to be part of the research get in touch!
